How To Prepare For Civil Excise Officer (CEO) Exam

The main exam for the recruitment of Civil Excise Officer (CEO) trainees is knocking on our doors! What Is A Civil Excise Officer?

 The Excise Department is the law enforcement agency responsible to administer the laws related to liquor, narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, medicinal preparations containing alcohol, and narcotics. A civil excise officer is the lowest ranking enforcement officer in the department. 

Scale of pay: Rs. 20,000 – 45,800/- 

Exam Pattern and Syllabus 

Total questions: 100

Time: 1hr and 15 minutes

Mode of examination: objective type (OMR)

Mark distribution: 1 mark for every correct answer and a negative of ⅓ marks for every wrong marking in the OMR sheet.

Age: 19-31 

 Educational qualifications: Must have passed the Plus Two examination or its equivalent.

Selection Process

From 2021 Kerala PSC introduced a two-tier examination system for all 10th, 12th, and degree level exams. The selection process for the civil excise officer includes 

1. Preliminary Exam

A common examination is conducted for various posts that require a minimum qualification of 12th level. The preliminary exam is qualifying in nature and candidates clearing the cut-off of the prelims are eligible to write the main examination. The cut-off depends on the number of candidates, level of the examination, vacancies, and many other factors. 

 2. Main Examination 

A separate main examination is conducted for the various posts and the candidates qualifying for the main exam can attend the physical test. 

3. Physical Test 

A Physical Efficiency Test will be conducted by the commission to assess the physical efficiency of the candidates. Candidates must qualify in at least 5 out of 8 items in the physical efficiency test showing the minimum standards of efficiency
